Human remains found in search for missing woman, husband charged with murder

COMANCHE COUNTY, Texas - Human remains were recovered Wednesday night on the property surrounding the residence of a man who is charged with the murder of his wife, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Amber Lowery, 34, was last seen at her home off of Highway 36 near Rising Star July 23. Her husband, Michael, contacted KTXS July 26 about her disappearance and was charged with murder Tuesday.

DPS announced the discovery of human remains just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The remains have yet to be identified and are being sent to a forensic service unit at the University of North Texas.

A doublewide trailer home and white-roofed barn sit on the Lowery property. They are located between two bodies of water, including Shultz Lake.

According to a search warrant affidavit, investigators searched the property for Amber's body, bodily fluids, evidence of blood indicating violent trauma, instruments capable of inflicting homicidal injuries and evidence of who was present when Amber was killed.

Amber's sister told authorities Michael allegedly claimed in the past he could kill Amber and bury her on the property so she could never be found, according to a criminal complaint. A man who served in the U.S. Army with Michael also claimed he heard Michael threaten to kill Amber.

Officers asked Michael Lowery – on July 24 – whether he and Amber were having any problems and Michael allegedly told them they were not having problems and he had not laid a hand on her.

Michael also allegedly told them Amber had sent him text messages the afternoon she went missing saying she would file for divorce and accused him of deleting pictures of her late parents and stealing her personal belongings.
