Blue Cross Blue Shield negotiations may affect access to Hendrick

ABILENE, Texas - If you use Hendrick Health System’s services under Blue Cross Blue Shield’s coverage, you may have to find a different doctor for a while if the two companies can't agree on a new contract.

They're currently negotiating, but if the companies can't come to an agreement before a December deadline, Blue Cross Blue Shield says Hendrick will no longer participate in some of its networks.

“Hendrick Medical Center will no longer participate in our Blue Choice PPOSM and ParPlan provider networks, effective Dec. 1, 2017. In addition, it will no longer participate in our Blue EssentialsSM network after Dec. 9, 2017. Hendrick Provider Network and Hendrick Anesthesia Network will no longer participate in our Blue Choice PPO, ParPlan or Blue Essentials networks as of Dec. 1, 2017,” the company said in a statement.

When asked how many Hendrick patients would be affected, Blue Cross and Blue Shield told KTXS, “We don't have anything beyond our statement to offer. We'll reach out to you the moment that changes.“

Hendrick also released a statement, saying it is “committed to finding a resolution.”

President and CEO of Hendrick Health System Tim Lancaster said, “we were on the phone [Thursday] with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and an in-person meeting has been scheduled. We are encouraged by the progress that has been made.”

KTXS will continue to follow and update this story as more information become available.
