The month-long dispute between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and Hendrick Health System officially ended at midnight Monday – and Blue Cross is now out-of-network.
Tim Lancaster, the president and CEO of Hendrick Health System has asked for people to keep doing what they have been doing. “What we have been asking people to do is call us in order to find out what they should be doing.”
The Hendrick hotline is 325-307-0368. In fact Hendrick had received 28 phone calls by Tuesday morning regarding this dispute, and 212 phone calls since this dispute went public.
Hendrick Medical Center is still hopeful that Blue Cross will be back in-network, “That is our hope and it’s been our hope from day one. We have everything to gain by being a part of the blue cross system,” Hendrick CEO and President Tim Lancaster said Tuesday.
The decision has impacted 10,000 households, who now have to look elsewhere for primary medical care, but it also impacted the City of Abilene and its employees, and city officials are doing their best to manage the situation, “They [employees] have all been notified about the changes and what’s going on with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Hendrick. We are looking into the situation and making sure we can provide the best health insurance for them.”
Blue Cross members include Abilene Christian University employees, Abilene Independent School District employees and City of Abilene employees who are insured.
