The United Way of Abilene will present a check for $5,000 Monday to the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene to offset expenses of damaged vehicles at their Martinez Elementary facility.
In all, last week’s massive hailstorm damaged five vehicles used to transport youth.
“We hope that this gift will help the club get their vans back to benefit the children,” United Way of Abilene President/CEO Cathy Ashby said in a news release.
The United Way of Abilene’s Emergency Assistance Fund was created to “provide assistance for nonprofit agencies and the community in times of crisis, the release said. The fund was last tapped after a Spring 2011 hailstorm and wildfire danger.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Emergency Assistance Fund should contact United Way of Abilene at (325) 677-1841.
