Talks are underway in Brownwood about ratifying a new contract for ambulance service.
Guardian EMS, the current provider, is being purchased by Georgetown-based Allegiance Ambulance.
Brown County commissioners have agreed to assign the county's contract with Guardian to Allegiance, but the Brownwood City Council still has questions about the move.
In fact, the council voted Tuesday to deny allowing the contract to be assigned to Allegiance over concerns it might disallow competitive bids.
According to Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree, a joint council-commissioner meeting will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday to see if an agreement can be worked out.
Guardian's current contract runs through December 2016.
