Brownwood Boys and Girls Club offers free summer meals
Many kids are getting free school meals during summer.
As part of the USDA 2013 Summer Food Service Program, Brownwood ISD is providing free breakfasts and lunches to the Boys and Girls Club. The best part is kids can still get in on the meal deal even if they are not a part of the club. The only requirement is that they are 18 years old or younger.
The Boys and Girls Club chief professional officer Danny Willingham said he's seen an increase in attendance at the club since more kids come to eat.
"It makes me feel great to see that the kids are getting a good meal," Willingham said. "The need is great because the children literally might not eat if they didn't come up here for that day."
Hundreds of kids eat the summer meals at the Boys and Girls Club every day.
Brownwood ISD has been providing meals since the beginning of June and will continue to do so throughout mid-August. Willingham said kids will start school soon after, where they can get the meals and nutrition they need.
