BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Texas Rangers' Unsolved Homicides webpage includes 68 cold cases throughout Texas, but none are from Brown County.
Major urban areas are listed on the webpage, smaller areas aren't, yet.
Right now, Brown County has at least four unsolved murder cases. They are not on the webpage, but the Brown County Sheriff's Office hopes to change that.
"The ranger told me, in counties our size, usually they'll reserve about two slots for each one. They try to prioritize everything they're doing, of course," said Chief Deputy Bobby Duvall with the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office is confident the high profile cold cases will eventually be listed on the website.
"I would expect that Brownwood would get at least two slots, maybe even a third or fourth if we worked hard at it behind the scenes," said Duvall.
Duvall said two Brown County cases stand out.
"Amanda Goodman, young girl that was innocently, brutally murdered," said Duvall.
In 1989, 13-year-old Goodman was found dead in a ditch off Indian Creek Road with a single gun shot wound to the head.
"Another one, 29-year-old male named Laureles that was murdered in the south side of Brown County," said Duvall.
"The Laureles case has got some fairly strong leads that we are revisiting, and we feel a little bit optimistic that we may see some results out of that," said Duvall.
Leon Laureles was shot and killed in 1996.
The sheriff's office hopes to see these cases added to the Texas Rangers' Unsolved Homicides webpage within a couple weeks.
