Non-profit organizations in Brownwood raising money through Christmas tree auction

Decorated Christmas tree on sale in Brownwood supports local charity

BROWNWOOD, Texas - If you're procrastinating on putting up your Christmas tree this year, Brownwood non-profit organizations may be able to help, and you can help them in return.

As part of the second annual Christmas tree auction, you can buy a pre-decorated Christmas tree at the Lehnis Train Museum for a good cause.

All you have to do is drop by the museum and place a bid on one of the seven trees. The starting bid is at $50. All of the proceeds will go to the participating organizations, which include the Boys and Girls Club, Brown County Child Welfare, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Caring Family Network, the Ark Domestic Violence Shelter, Relay for Life and the VFW.

"This is just a way that they can raise money throughout the year," the museum's Kim Peterson said.

Peterson said she knows the Brownwood community always comes through for each other.

"They're helping the non-profit but then that's going back into the community, and so it's warming, especially whenever you see people come in and they won the bid and they're excited about it," Peterson said.

Peterson said the highest bidder, which will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 21st, at 3:30 p.m., gets to take the fully adorned tree home. If you want to take the tree home immediately, you can pay $300.
