RV park could be coming soon to Brownwood's Riverside Park

New RV park for Brownwood

BROWNWOOD, Texas - City council members of Brownwood are planning to give those who are passing through a nice stay by building an RV park.

Brownwood city manager Bobby Rountree said there is discussion of building one at Riverside Park, where people can also see Pecan Bayou. He said the city needs this new facility to accommodate the crowds who come to town for events like the Brownwood Reunion and football games.

"We don't want it to be permanent residential," Rountree said. "We want it to be an upscale, nice-looking RV park."

The timeline for how long visitors can park have not been decided yet but Rountree said he preferred less than a year.

The city is working with property owner and project developer Ross Setzler, who said the roughly three-acre site will be able to hold about 25 RV's. He also said the site is perfect for tourists.

"People will be able to walk to the city park or they can walk to a restaurant down the street and it'll be nice and convenient," Setzler said. "With the number of retirees that we have increasing every day, a lot of them are selling their house. They're downsizing, they're buying an RV and they're hitting the road, so we want to be ready for them when they come through Brownwood."

Cost to park and cost to build have yet to be determined. There will be more discussion on this project at next Tuesday's city council meeting. Setzler said he hopes to start construction within December and have everything done by Spring 2014.
