BROWNWOOD, Texas -

Brownwood police are seeing an increase in car burglaries recently, which they are investigating.

At least seven vehicle burglaries were reported this past Monday alone.

As local law enforcers made stops among the communities for Tuesday's National Night Out, they reminded the public to be more aware of their surroundings and belongings.

"Secure your valuables. We can't stress that enough," Brownwood Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller said. He said it is important to hide your personal belongings rather than leave them in sight because criminals will look thoroughly before they decide whether or not to smash a window and steal. In addition, it is important to lock your doors and roll up your windows.
