CALDWELL, Texas (AP) -

A Central Texas sheriff's deputy has died after being shot while serving a warrant at a home.

The Burleson County Sheriff's Office says Sgt. Adam Sowders died after being shot shortly before 6 a.m. CST Thursday.

A statement from the sheriff's office in Caldwell, about 70 miles northeast of Austin, says that "suspects" are in custody. Sheriff's spokeswoman Christine Labertew had no immediate information on how many people were detained or the purpose of the warrant.

She said Sowders was fatally shot when a team of officers "took fire" while entering the residence in south Burleson County. Labertew said nobody else was hurt.

Further details weren't immediately released.
