Twenty-two new fields will be part of a new soccer complex in Brownwood.
The project has been underway for a while now, but because of the drought, plans were pushed back.
Not only will the complex include the 22 fields, sized for various age groups, they will also have two concession stands and bathroom areas located on each side of the complex.
When the city received a bond for the fire station, road repair and the soccer complex were also included. With this and $100,000 from the Texas Parks and Wildlife, the city now has $2.2 million for this project.
Two Brownwood-based soccer associations – Soccer For Fun and Cen-Tex – were brought in the meetings to make sure their necessities were met as well.
Right now, the area is being leveled and an underground drainage system is being installed. The city is hoping to have the complex up and running by fall of 2015.
