Controversial restaurant concept may replace Carino's on Buffalo Gap in Abilene
A popular Abilene Italian restaurant officially closed its doors Wednesday.
Employees at Carino's served up their last entrees Tuesday night. The restaurant, located on Buffalo Gap at Winter's Freeway, said it was a corporate decision.
But what will replace the popular Italian eatery? KTXS received a tip that it could be a Twin Peaks Restaurant. The theme of that concept features servers wearing small cutoff shorts and midriff-baring, low-cut tops.
We reached out to the corporate marketing office of Twin Peaks, asking if they were planning to move a restaurant into a location on Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. An email in response said, "At this point, nothing is confirmed. We are still evaluating sites and looking at the market. Nothing is final. Thanks!."
However, when we reached out to the company's Facebook page, there was a different story.
The post back said, "That is true! Not for a little bit though. Keep your eye out for New Store Opening posts!"
In the quiet, family-oriented community of Abilene, the controversial concept is raising some eyebrows.
"It's demeaning to females in general," Abilene Christian University student Brian Morris said. "I wouldn't eat there, and I think Abilene is pretty biblical and Christian so I don't know who would."
"No woman should dress like that to be honest," Abilene resident Bryan Green said. "I'm shocked."
Others, though, weren't against the idea.
"I think it's great with the college town and you're competing with Odessa and San Angelo, Abilene really needs to compete with those other towns," Sweetwater resident Portia Linebaugh said.
"I know there would definitely be some people in town who wouldn't like it much but it's money coming in so no one should be able to complain," Hardin-Simmons University student Blake Massey said.
