Afghanistan plane crash
ABILENE, Texas -

One of the men killed in that horrific plane crash in Afghanistan on Monday had been stationed at Dyess Air Force Base.

Jamie Brokaw, 33, of Monroe, Mich., spent six years in the Air Force and trained as a flight mechanic at Dyess in 2007 and 2008.

Brokaw and six other civilians died when the Boeing 747 operated by National Air Cargo crashed shortly after takeoff from Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.

When Brokaw withdrew from the service, he was hired as a flight engineer for National Air Cargo and had worked his way up to the co-pilot position.

Brokaw was first officer on the plane. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
