Hardin-Simmons’ baseball team lost 11-1 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action on Friday night at Hunter Field.
Chase Burrow gave the Cru a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run single. UMHB added four runs in the third. K.J. Stark had a leadoff home run, Burrow had an RBI double, Tripp Reeves had an RBI double and Heath Spencer an RBI single.
UMHB added two runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Stark and a run in the sixth on a Burrow home run to left. HSU scored its lone run on an RBI single by Colson Craddick. The Cru added two runs in the ninth.
Ian Ekery held the Cowboys in check allowing just three hits and one run over six and one-third innings. Tyler Taute did not allow a run in two and two-third innings of relief. Ekery is now 5-2 on the year.
Jeremy Hallmark started and allowed five runs in two and two-thirds. He is now 1-2. Kyle Barnett, John Benedetto, Taylor Peables, Trey Doebbler, Kyle Johnson and Ryan Reagor all worked in relief for the Cowboys.
Jason Vause and Colson Craddick had two hits each for the Cowboys in a five-hit attack. Burrow drove in four runs and had four hits for UMHB.
HSU is now 12-16 on the year and 8-14 in ASC play. UMHB is now 19-9 on the year and 14-8 in conference play. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
