GLEN ROSE, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ women’s golf team shot a 359 in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship and sits in fourth place at the par-72, Apache Links Golf Course at Squaw Valley Golf Club.

The course played difficult with a 25 MPH north wind and a wind chill in the 30’s for most of the round.

Dylan Dawson and Kylee Emerson each shot 85 for the Cowgirls and they are both tied for 10th place overall. Kara Doege shot 94 and Traci Tschirhart a 95. Cassi Smith had a 101 total on the first day.

Texas-Tyler leads the team race after shooting a 317 total. Mary Hardin-Baylor is second with a 324, Concordia shot a 353 for third, HSU is fourth at 359, UC-Santa Cruz is fifth with a 365, Texas-Dallas shot 366, LeTourneau and Louisiana College round out the field.

McKenzie Ralston of Mary Hardin-Baylor leads the medalist race by one shot over Taylor Sloane of Texas-Tyler.

The teams will play 18 holes on Tuesday to conclude the championship.
