DALLAS (AP) -

Dallas police say an off-duty police officer fatally shot a man after witnessing an incident between people in the vehicle that man was traveling in and a vehicle in which a man was found dead.

Maj. Jeff Cotner said the incident began early Wednesday with a disturbance at a gas station between a vehicle carrying multiple people and the driver of another car.

A shot was fired and the vehicles took off, with a car crashing into parked cars. An officer leaving his off-duty shift went to investigate, following the fleeing vehicle with multiple people.

Cotner said when the vehicle stopped the officer saw an armed person who "took an action that made the officer believe he was in imminent danger" and fired. The vehicle then crashed into parked cars.
