Towering over Abilene's downtown is the one and only Dino Bob.
However, years of wear and tear have been hard on Dino Bob. The Abilene Cultural Affairs Council arranged a makeover.
Artist Pedro Rivera, who has worked on the new Frontier Texas exhibit “Blood & Treasure on the Frontier”, is hard at work repairing the foam and putting a hard resin coating over the body.
The statue of Dino Bob, with that Volkswagen, has been seen downtown for 13 years. His first few years was a stint on top of the Grace Museum.
So why the makeover now? Bob is based on a character by William Joyce and his book “Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo.”
Joyce is the honoree at next summer's Children's Arts and Literacy festival in downtown Abilene.
