Document: Abilene suspect in fatal hit-and-run thought about calling 'someone' but didn't

ABILENE, Texas - A court document details what an Abilene driver says happened last Friday when she allegedly struck and killed a 55-year-old woman who was walking on the access road near I-20.

Teresa Ann Dominy, the 64-year-old woman who was arrested Wednesday in connection with Robbin Caldwell’s death, told police that she initially thought she needed to go back and call someone after the fatal accident.

But she didn’t, the court document shows.

Dominy admitted to police that she knew she had "hit something," the document notes.

“As she was at the light at Hwy 351, she turned on her interior light and could see that the passenger side of her windshield was smashed,” the document says. “She continued in her damaged car without stopping to check on what she hit, nor did she call anyone for help.”

Dominy’s vehicle – a Ford Escape – was later found abandoned on Miller Road near the intersection of Potosi Road in southern Taylor County, the report indicates.

Meanwhile, Caldwell was already dead when police arrived, the document shows. Her body was “lying partially in the roadway and partially on the curb,” according to the document.

“There was a long trail of debris and indications that Ms. Caldwell had slid on the road surface for some distance,” the document continues. “In addition to property belonging to Ms. Caldwell, officers found debris from a vehicle.

“… They were able to determine the suspect vehicle was a silver Ford.”

Police say they recovered a piece of vehicle’s grill and determined that it came from a Ford Escape.

Later in the morning, a DPS trooper located a gray Ford Escape that had been abandoned on Miller Road near the intersection of Potosi Road.

“The vehicle showed damage consistent with striking a pedestrian,” the document says.

It was registered to Dominy.

Even later in the day, Dominy contacted police and said she was involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Police say she waived her rights and then spoke about the accident.

KTXS will provide additional details as they become available.
