DPS identifies Abilene man, 85, killed in crash with garbage truck

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas - The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man killed in an accident Thursday morning on CR 318, roughly 4.5 miles northeast of US 277 in Taylor County.

DPS says Edwin Lee Plowman, 85, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at Abilene Regional Medical Center after the accident occurred at 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

He was a passenger in a 2015 GMC pickup driven by Jeanelle Holley Plowman, 81, also of Abilene, that crashed into the back of a garbage truck.

The pickup was traveling east on CR 318 when the KWS garbage truck, driven by 60-year-old Johnny Dinnen Ross of Abilene, backed out of a private driveway. The Plowman’s vehicle struck the “right rear portion” of the trash truck, DPS said in a release Friday.

Jeanelle Holley Plowman was taken to Abilene Regional Medical Center, where she was considered to be stable with non-incapacitating injuries.

The weather was clear and cloudy, while the road condition was dry at the time of the accident, DPS said.

The accident remains under investigation.
