HOUSTON (AP) -

Eight Houston homicide division police officers have been disciplined for what Chief Charles McClelland says were policy violations and deficiencies in investigations.

The punishments McClelland announced Friday range from one sergeant receiving an indefinite suspension and two others, a lieutenant and an officer, each getting a written reprimand. The others implicated in an internal affairs investigation that began last year received suspensions of two to 10 days.

All may appeal their disciplines. McClelland said the Harris County district attorney has decided not to pursue any criminal charges against them.

McClelland said the investigations of 24 cases were affected and nine remain open. The sergeant who received the indefinite suspension was involved in 21 of them.

The chief said when the department missteps, it admits it and takes corrective action.
