Cyber Monday
DALLAS (AP) -

It's also Cyber Monday for federal agents targeting unscrupulous online merchants.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's homeland security investigations arm announced Monday that it seized or shut down 700 domain names nationwide and 57 in Texas that were associated with the sale of counterfeit goods.

On sites like www.nflfavourite.com, authorities have posted a red "Seized" notice announcing Operation In Our Sites.

John McNair, Dallas' assistant special agent in charge for investigations, said Monday that websites are often a "chokepoint" for manufacturers and vendors of counterfeit goods. McNair says the seized domain names could lead to criminal charges later.

McNair cautions online customers to be wary of sites that offer deals that seem too good to be true. Some sites post fake endorsements by the Better Business Bureau or other groups.
