ABILENE, Texas - A former maintenance worker for Big Country Baptist Assembly in Lueders is behind bars on a federal charge of possession of child pornography.

The Department of Homeland Security searched Steven Turnbow’s home on the BCBA property on October 12, 2016.

Turnbow was working as a maintenance worker, taking care of the camp’s lawn. BCBA is a religious camp that hosts summer camps for children, adult retreats, and mission camps. According to BCBA’s Facebook page, 4,500 campers participated in BCBA activities last summer.

According to court documents, DHS seized Turnbow’s desktop computer, internal hard drive and USB flash drive. Investigators found several photos on those devices of girls under the age of 13 engaging in explicit conduct.

BCBA camp director Jeremy Brann said they were not aware of Turnbow’s behavior prior to the arrest. He said Turnbow didn’t interact with the children and didn’t enter their dormitories. Turnbow was immediately removed from the camp after his arrest and is no longer allowed on the property.

Turnbow was indicted March 8 on possession of prepubescent child pornography and aiding and abetting. He was later booked into Taylor County Jail on March 14.

Turnbow’s trial is set for April 24.
