An autopsy has been ordered on a 9-year-old girl whose body was found wrapped in blankets at her Houston home.

Houston police on Tuesday said neighbors became concerned after not seeing the child for several months. Police were summoned after a neighbor on Monday entered the home through an unlocked door and found the body in the kitchen.

Nobody else was at the residence.

Sgt. Chris Hassig said investigators are trying to reach the girl's mother. Hassig said police have contacted the child's father, who lives elsewhere.
The name of the girl wasn't immediately released.
Officials with Child Protective Services are helping investigate.
