ABILENE, Texas -

UPDATE: Stephen Williams, 38, has been arrested by Abilene police and charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Williams was arrested in connection with hitting multiple vehicles and two light poles Friday night.

Williams is being held on a $240,000 bond at the Taylor County Jail.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The incident started about 8 p.m. near Abilene High School on Mockingbird.

Police say it stemmed from a disturbance in a vehicle.  The driver of a blue Avalanche first struck a light pole and then a vehicle near the high school, knocking it on its side. The driver was injured and taken by ambulance to an Abilene hospital.

The Avalanche then continued north on Mockingbird striking three other vehicles and a second light pole.

An off-duty Taylor County sheriff's deputy saw the crashes and gave chase but was unable to stop the car.

At that point the driver bailed out in the vicinity of North 14th and Mockingbird.  Police continue to look for the driver.

There was one other adult and two juveniles in the blue Avalanche when all this took place.

Police say the driver of the Avalanche will face charges of aggravated assault if he's caught.
