ABILENE, Texas -

Hogs 4 Dogs at Kent's Harley Davidson was held on Saturday to raise money for local animal shelters.

Participants paid a small fee to play poker and ride their bikes.

Pets who needed to be adopted were also there.

Although it was meant to be fun, the issue of pet adoption raised a serious discussion.

"A lot of people are not aware that over 5,000 animals are euthanized in the animal shelters every year, and actually Abilene has one of the best records in the state, whereas it's much worse in other cities our size," Robert Sudbury, director of Paw Angels, said.

All proceeds from the event will go to Rescue the Animals, SPCA and Paw Angels.
