HSU Cowboys release 2017 football schedule

HSU reveals 2017 football schedule

ABILENE, TX - Hardin-Simmons’ football coach Jesse Burleson has announced the 2017 schedule.

The Cowboys will play the entire 10-game slate straight through without an off week, beginning with its lone non-conference game on Sept. 9 at home against Texas College.

HSU remains home the next week to play Louisiana College and then will close September with a pair of road games at Howard Payne and East Texas Baptist. Texas College, HPU and ETBU all will have first-year head coaches.

The Cowboys start October with a tilt against defending national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. The winner of this game has won at least a share of every ASC title since 1998.

HSU then plays a pair of games on the road at Sul Ross State on Oct. 14 and at Texas Lutheran on Oct. 21, before returning to Shelton Stadium for a Homecoming contest against Southwestern. TLU and Southwestern are joining the ASC as football-only members for the 2017 season.

In November, HSU will host Belhaven for senior day on Nov. 4 and will close the regular season at McMurry on Nov. 11.

The Cowboys return six starters on both sides of the ball from a team that went 9-2 a year ago.
