Hugworks provides music and smiles to sick children at Hendrick Children's Hospital
Sick children at Hendrick Children's Hospital got a happy surprise Tuesday.
Hugworks, a nonprofit that brings music to kids with special medical and emotional needs, made a stop at the hospital. The organization believes that music is the best way to brighten someone's day.
"It gives them a chance to normalize the environment. When everything is abnormal in the hospital for them, it really gives them a chance to be kids and have fun," Hugworks founder Jim Newton said about the music.
Hugworks travels all over the country to bring kids a smile and make their stay at the hospital a little bit easier.
One child's mother, Ashley Roman-Smith, said the music lit up her son Bryson's face.
"Makes them feel special like they came in just for him take their mind off of being sick and having all this all these wires and cords and everything coming off of them," said Roman-Smith.
Newton said seeing kids like Bryson smile makes it worth it for him.
Hugworks has been visiting hospitals for 30 years. They have been to thousands of hospitals all over the country. They serve more than 20-thousand children and family members a year.
