ABILENE, Texas -

It's Day 3 of the government shutdown and some businesses are doing what they can to help furloughed employees.

One of them is Badger Kuts in Merkel. When Evelyn Fourney, owner of Badger Kuts, saw that about 800,000 would be furloughed because of the government shutdown, she knew she wanted to help.

"I've been given so many blessings in my life you know it's just a way for me to give back," Fourney said.

Fourney is offering free haircuts to furloughed federal employees, active duty military, veterans, and their families during the shutdown.

"Haircuts, everybody needs them, but it's not something that's going to be thought about. So it's kind of one of those things just keep life normal," Fourney said.

"I just can't imagine that feeling that's a very insecure feeling the economy's tough right now anyway it's scary," Fourney said.

To get an appointment at Badger Kuts you can call 325-864-5255, walk in or book online at badgerkuts.com.

Other businesses are doing their part to calm people’s fears as well. After the commissary at Dyess closed, United Supermarket announced a 10 percent discount for active, retired and civilian military.

Sam’s Club is waiving their membership fee for military, retirees and their families so they can save on groceries during the shutdown.
