Senior Keeley Lowrance pitched her second no-hitter of the season as Hardin-Simmons defeated Texas-Dallas, 4-0, in an elimination game at the American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament at Suddenlink Field in Tyler.
Lowrance was dominant in the game. She allowed only two baserunner, a walk and an error. She struck out three batters. She improved to 11-5 with the win.
The Cowgirls jumped on the board with two runs in the third inning. Sydney Darden scored the first run in the inning when she was headed home with the bases loaded and the throw to the plate hit her and she slid home safely. Emily Hardaway added an RBI single in the inning.
In the fourth inning, Kara LeLeux doubled to right center off the wall to drive home Darden.
Sarah Truelove added an RBI double in the fifth inning for HSU.
Truelove, Darden, LeLeux, Lauren Williams and Hardaway had two hits for HSU as the Cowgirls hammered out 11 hits.
Sara Davison allowed two earned runs over five inning and took the loss for UTD. The Comets closed out the season with a record of 23-19.
HSU (22-18) advances to another elimination game at 7 p.m. Friday. HSU will play the loser of the winner's bracket game between East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor. That game will be played Friday 1 p.m.
