A 26-year-old Texas man was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on County Road 372 – about 10.5 miles east of Anson – in Jones County.

Joshua Giddings of Keene was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey, a Department of Public Safety news release said.

While Giddings was driving the 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, a passenger in the vehicle – William Andrew Shelton, 24, of Mabank – received what was described as a “critical incapacitating injury,” according to DPS.

The accident reportedly occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday, although it wasn’t discovered until more than nine hours later – at 10:30 a.m.

Giddings, who DPS said had been drinking, was reportedly speeding eastbound on County Road 372 when his truck began to “fishtail.” The truck entered a left side skid and began to roll, the DPS news release said.

Giddings and Shelton weren’t wearing seatbelts and were ejected.
