McMurry University’s women’s golf team closed its 2013-14 season on Tuesday afternoon at the Doc Housewright Invitational. The tourney was hosted by Tarleton State University on the par-72, 5,790-yard Harbor Lakes Golf Club course.
The event was shortened to one-day, and 18-holes, after wind and cold canceled Monday’s scheduled first round. The War Hawks’ team carded a team aggregate score of 330, good for ninth place, on a day that was still cold and blustery for the competitors.
Freshman Arabella Cruz and sophomore Cameron Wallace (a former Abilene Cooper High School product) shared top honors for McM by carding identical rounds of 82. That tied the War Hawks’ pair for 38th place.
Senior Makenzie Stone and sophomore Randi Hanfeld tied for 42nd place, carding rounds of 83 each. Junior Leah Morgan turned in an 85 (tie for 47th place) to round out the McM scoring.
Stone, the team’s lone senior, closed out her two-year McMurry career after transferring in last season as a junior. Stone finished the 2013-14 campaign with an 86.10 stroke average. She had a total of four, top-25 finishes this season, as well.
