ABILENE, Texas -

Dramatic readings, movies, balloons, crafts, a parade, and train rides are all part of the fun set for this weekend's Children's Art and Literature Festival.

It all happens in downtown Abilene, and kicks off with a parade Thursday night. This year's festival honors the work of William Joyce.

Thursday

4 p.m. William Joyce character costume contest. All winners will receive a prize.

5-8 p.m. ArtWalk: All museum exhibits will be free and open during ArtWalk.

5:30 p.m. William Joyce parade. 

6:30 p.m. Artist Talk at Paramount Theatre.

Evening finale: Unveiling of six Guardians of Childhood sculptures around downtown.

 

Friday

9 a.m. Dramatic readings at six locations

9:45 a.m. Movie: “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” Paramount Theatre, 352 Cypress St.

10:15 a.m. Dramatic readings at six locations.

10:30 a.m. Books signings by William Joyce at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature.
