Fire burns 15,000 acres in Nevada

More than 500 evacuations forced in Mount Charleston area

Thick smoke has been filling the air in Southern Nevada thanks to a fire that has been burning since July 1.

As of Tuesday morning, the Carpenter 1 Fire had burned 15,268 acres and forced more than 500 evacuations in the Mount Charleston area, according to Las Vegas TV station KVVU. The fire was 15 percent contained Tuesday.

The blaze was sparked by a lightning strike, according to CNN.
