The Abilene Zoo’s newest exhibit – Caribbean Cove – is set to be unveiled Thursday.
According to zoo officials, staff has “taken an old area of the zoo that had outdated cages and hazardous sidewalks and has created a little slice of the Caribbean.”
“The exhibit becomes home to over 30 new species of animals such as spider and tamarin monkeys, two-toed sloth, tayra, prehensile-tailed porcupine, and countless amphibians and colorful birds, all in a beautiful tropical setting,” a press release said.
“A bronze sea turtle sculpture invites the kids to take a ride and be photographed. To top it all off, visitors can purchase snow cones in tropical flavors from the snow cone cart.”
On Thursday, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Red Coats will provide the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
