AUSTIN, Texas -

In the special session, Governor Rick Perry signed a measure that could require drug testing for unemployment benefits.

Employees fired for cause, including those who fail employer sponsored drug tests don't qualify for benefits.

Under the new law, unemployment applicants will have to answer a questionnaire. The answers they give could lead to a drug test, failing that test could mean losing benefits.

Only first-time applicants working in occupations that normally require drug tests would undergo screening.
