SAN JUAN, Texas (AP) -

Authorities say more than 40 immigrants hidden by smugglers in a South Texas home were threatened with electric shock and kept from eating if they disobeyed orders.

A criminal complaint released Monday shows the immigrants were found in a home in San Juan, just east of McAllen. Authorities say they're primarily from Honduras but some are from other Central and South American countries.

The Monitor newspaper reports 30-year-old Ezequiel Vasquez Baneco is accused of running the stash house and has been charged with two counts of human smuggling. Vasquez is being held without bond in federal custody.

One of the immigrants apparently escaped the home and notified authorities Thursday.
