Matt Porter shot a 1-unde par 70 in the final round of the 86th West Texas Amateur, finishing in fourth place for the event. Porter shot an even-par aggregate score of 213 for the 54-hole event at the par-71, 6,983-yard Wichita Falls Country Club.
Porter (Sr./Seymour, Texas) had rounds of 70, 73 and 70 for the tourney. Porter was one of just three players to shoot under par in the final round.
Wes Artac won the tournament with a 7-under 206 for the 54 holes.
Porter made a big move on the front nine holes, going 3-under par thanks to four birdies. Porter opened with three straight pars, before birdying the par-3 No. 4 and the par-5 No. 6. He then bogeyed the par-4 No. 7, before putting up back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 (both par-4’s).
Porter struggled early on the back nine, bogeying three of the first four holes (Nos. 10, 12 and 13). A birdie on the par-5 No. 15 got Porter back into red numbers for the day and even for the Amateur. He closed his round with three-consecutive pars for the total of 70.
