Post office will deliver packages Sunday to help with Christmas rush
The Christmas season means crowds and long lines at the post office.
"We want to make sure that everybody has their packages in time for Christmas," said Abilene Postmaster Lewis Alambar.
The postal service is going through their busiest time of the year.
"It's a lot of packages that were handling this year compared to the past," said Alambar.
When it comes to shipping presents, whether you're sending a little or a lot, for them to arrive by Christmas, time is running out.
"The sooner the better because of the amount of packages that are flowing through the system right now. It's better to ship early, so if you can get here within the next day or two it's even better, but if not you can wait until Friday, Saturday, even Sunday here if you mail in the lobby," Alambar said.
To make sure gifts reach their destination on time Alambar said you should send all first class packages by Friday, priority mail can go out as late as Saturday, priority mail express by Monday and if you can’t get to the post office before they close, there is always another option.
"We do have a lobby where we can accommodate you 24/7 all you need is a debit card, credit card and you can ship it," Alambar said.
Alambar said they are ready for the busy week ahead and are even doing something different this year for the first time ever in Abilene.
"We're actually going to deliver on Sunday so you'll see some of our postal vehicles out and some of our city carriers and actually our rural carriers out in the county so we won't be so overloaded on Monday," Alambar said.
The Pine Street post office is open until 5 p.m. The branch on Buffalo Gap road is open till 5:15 p.m.
