Relay for Life kicks off Friday in Abilene.

It's a big day for cancer awareness and research efforts.

The event will be going on near ACU's Elmer Gray Stadium from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. There is a special survivors lap at 6:45 p.m. and a luminary tribute at 9 p.m.

There are 60 teams and more than 700 participants. Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society event. It's also an opportunity to honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost to the disease.
