South Texas teen charged with killing 6 in wreck
A teenager accused in the deaths of six members of a family after crashing into their SUV while fleeing a state trooper in South Texas earlier this week has been charged with six counts of murder.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger said 18-year-old Hector Ramirez of Roma was charged Thursday. Vinger said Ramirez was arraigned after being released from a hospital where he had been treated following the crash.
Ramirez was denied bond and remained in the Hidalgo County jail Friday morning. A jail official had no attorney information for him.
At the time of Monday's crash, Ramirez was out on bond after being arrested a week earlier while trying to cross into Mexico in a stolen vehicle. Customs officers also found him in possession of marijuana.
