Texans relive the 19th century at Frontier Day
If you live in Texas now, you might not know what it looked like in the 19th century, but you had an opportunity to get a sneak peek on Saturday.
The Abilene State Park hosted "Frontier Day" Saturday afternoon to highlight the daily lives of pioneers and soldiers during that time period. Authentic chuck wagons, military demonstrations and buffalo hunters were on display for visitors to admire.
The Buffalo Soldiers Program at Texas Parks and Wildlife also celebrated their 20th anniversary on Saturday. The program preserves the history of buffalo soldiers, who served in Texas during the "Indian Wars" campaign in 1866 to 1892.
