HOUSTON (AP) -

Houston authorities say a man's death in a trash compacting machine appears to be a tragic industrial accident.

Police received a call Thursday that a 43-year-old worker at an appliance parts distribution company fell into a mobile compacting machine that's affixed to the back of a box truck.  The machine is used to crush packaging material.

Fire crews needed about two hours to extract the man's body from the machine.

Police said the worker was placing dry plastic foam material into the shredder, which melts the material and places it into bags. Investigators said he reached into the machine with his right hand and the blades pulled him into the device.

The name of the victim hasn't been released. Autopsy results are pending.
