Tracking a warm start to the work week, overnight rain chances in Abilene, the Big Country

ABILENE, Texas - An approaching cold front brings rain chances to the region tonight, but not before we see a hot afternoon.

We're tracking early clouds to start your Monday with patchy fog and light drizzle. Look for clearing towards lunchtime with afternoon highs topping out near 80 degrees.

A dryline will linger across the region this afternoon so we won't rule out a stray shower but, for now, it looks as though the best rain chances move into the area towards sunrise Tuesday.

Temperatures Tuesday begin in the mid 50s.

Showers and storms are likely during the morning hours on Tuesday but as the front moves through, our rain chances go with it during the afternoon.

We'll warm into the mid 60s to upper 70s around the region Tuesday.

Another concern for Tuesday afternoon will be the elevated fire danger. Much of the under will be under a Red Flag Warning or a Fire Weather Watch Tuesday afternoon, thanks to dry air and strong west winds, between 20 and 30 mph.

A reinforcing shot of cold air is expected overnight Tuesday with temperatures falling into the mid 30s by Wednesday morning.

High pressure will build in for your Hump Day with much cooler temperatures expected. Look for afternoon highs on Wednesday, only making it into the mid 50s.

Thursday starts under clear skies with temperatures near freezing. Highs during the afternoon will make it into the mid 60s, despite a weak cold front that looks to stall north of our region.

Friday, cool and fair conditions start the day with temperatures in the mid 30s. Highs are back above normal, in the mid 60s by the afternoon.

We'll see temperatures around 40 degrees Saturday morning but a cold front will move through during the day, making for highs around 61 during the afternoon.

Southerly winds make for an increase in cloud cover Saturday afternoon. The increase continues into the evening with temperatures falling into the mid 30s.

Sunday, mostly cloudy skies don't affect temperatures much with highs in the mid 60s before we cool down into the low 40s overnight.
