The Cross family of Cross Family Farms is the 2014 Farm Family of the Year.
Darrell, Linda, and Cody Cross were honored at the Abilene Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Wednesday morning at the Farm and Ranch Expo.
The Cross family was nominated by the Taylor County Extension Ag Committee.
Robert Pritz with the Taylor County A&M Extension Service said the Crosses mean a great deal to the local ag community.
"Cross Family Farms are great representatives of our farm family of the year, they represent those that are maintaining the family tradition," said Pritz.
They also attained the honor by staying up-to-date on some of the innovative technology in agriculture and by giving back to their community.
This year marks Darrell's 52nd wheat crop but the family also grows cotton and has stock cattle.
When asked about receiving the award, Linda Cross' answer was simple.
"I think it's because of the hard work and being dedicated to the profession of farming" she said.
When accepting the plaque, Darrell Cross quoted the 24th chapter of Psalms, saying that all is the Lord's.
He went on to say that they were blessed and humbled to be small caretakers of that for 52 years.
