The Early Police Department has added a new member to its police force: A drug dog named Jambo.
According to Police Chief David Mercer, Corp. Brandon McMillian and Jambo returned last week from the K9 academy in San Antonio. McMillian and the 2-year-old black German Sheppard have been certified in narcotics detection and tracking services.
In a news release, Mercer said Jambo is “very eager to work.”
“We are very excited to have Jambo added to our department and help fight the war on drugs,” Mercer said. “Jambo will be available to all local agencies immediately upon their request for drug searches and tracking situations.
“Jambo is trained to track and will be available to aid any agency in a situation of a lost child, an elderly individual who may be lost or a fugitive on the run.”
Mercer said the Early Police Department has received “great support” from the communities of Early and Brownwood. He said the Brown County Animal Clinic on Early Boulevard is providing veterinary services, while the Ag Mart on Highway 377 south in Brownwood is providing the food for Jambo. In addition, Mercer said, Walmart provided grant money which assisted in the purchase of Jambo.
