A Comanche chiropractor is dead and three others were injured in an explosion as a fireworks display was being set up Thursday at a baseball field adjacent to Comanche High School.
The dead and injured were all members of the Comanche Kiwanis Club. They were setting up for the organization's 24th annual display.
Friday’s fireworks show has been canceled.
According to authorities, chiropractor Russell Reynolds was killed in the explosion.
The three who were injured were reportedly taken to Comanche County Medical Center after the accident occurred about 9 a.m., officials say. One of the three who were injured -- identified as Eddie Parker -- was released from the hospital. Rex Plumlee, also injured in the explosion, was still being treated Thursday. Another unidentified man also hadn't been released yet.
A nearby trailer and truck were fully involved when the first fire truck arrived.
The 911 call about the explosion came in at 8:58 a.m., officials said.
Residents were asked to stay away from the scene. Those interested in helping were being asked to provide snacks, food and water. Items to be dropped off were asked to be taken to Heartland Funeral Home.
The explosion's cause is under investigation.
