ABILENE, Texas -

Wednesday afternoon, dozens gathered outside the West Texas Rehab on Hartford Street in Abilene for the ribbon cutting and open house for the new location of their Hearing and Balance Center.

The rehab says this new location will allow them to better serve patients with an updated facility and more efficient work areas. President of West Texas Rehab, Woody Gilliland, says the services they offer benefit patients in many ways, even some they may not expect.

"{We do} audiology and hearing aids, but really we work a lot with balance issues as well. Of course balance prevents falls and falls are the first thing in the dying process. If you read the literature, broken hips leads to nursing home stays and that type of thing," said Gilliland.

The Hearing and Balance Center treats patients from babies to the geriatric population. The new center was provided with funds from several generous donors.
