An Abilene woman who worked with Health and Human Services was indicted Thursday for allegedly lying to get government help.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Sherry Payne knowingly failed to report on a November 2012 food stamp application that her husband—who is the father of her youngest child—had an income and was living with them.
Officers said failing to do so allowed her a greater amount of food stamp eligibility than she was entitled to.
Payne was indicted for allegedly tampering with government records. She was arrested July 10 and bonded out of the Taylor County Jail the same day.
