February 4th is World Cancer Day.
According to the World Cancer Report, about half of all types of cancer are actually preventable through lifestyle changes.
In lieu of World Cancer Day, Chevrolet teamed with the American Cancer Society to raise money and bring awareness to cancer.
For every person that changed their Facebook and Twitter profile picture to purple, Chevy donated one dollar to The Society.
The money will go to The Society's "Road to Recovery" program that will give rides to those needing them to receive timely treatment.
Linda Neill, manager of education services at Hendrick Medical Center’s Cancer Center, said the sooner you teach your kids about cancer, the better their chances.
But according to the World Health Organization, cancer is still on the rise. They estimate 22 million new cancer cases within the next 20 years.
Neill says the community might be trying to fight that statistic.
"We have people from the community come into our office all the time and wanting information about what they can do prevent cancer and live a healthier life and so we provide educational materials for them," Neill said.
